Talib Jauhari cause of death is not Coronavirus as some news channel and social media pundits are claiming. He was sick for a long time and was over 80. He was admitted to ICU of Jinnah hospital in Karachi and after 15 days of fighting, he passed away.
I first saw Allama Talib Jauhri on PTV on 10th Muharram during Majlis or Sham e Ghareeban. He knew how to talk and how to make people cry. It was his art to say the same narrative again and again, year after year and yet managing to make people sad and remorseful. Few people have that knack in the world.
Allama Talib Jauhri was born on Aug 27, 1939 in Patna, Bihar. He obtained his early education from his father, Maulana Mohammad Mustafa Jauhar. Though he was Bihari, his Urdu was better than even people from Lucknow India who are famous for their accent and talk.
He was highly qualified in Shia theology from Iraq. He went to Najaf, Iraq, where he studied religion for a full ten years under the tutelage of renowned Shia scholars of the time. He also studied in Iran and some other places.
Allama Jauhari was a class fellow of the widely revered scholar Ayatollah Sayyid Ali al-Husayni al-Sistani. Both were also good friend and held each other in great regard and stayed in touch for a long time. In 1965 he came back to Karachi and was appointed principal of the Jamia Imamia.
