Gorano villagers call on Sindh Energy Minister

The residents of Gorano village on Wednesday along with PPP MPA from the area met with Sindh Minister for Energy Mr Imttiaz Ahmed Shaikh and appraised him of their problems of the area.

Beemraj Meghwar, Advocate Leela Ram, Haji Ayub Lodho , Bhutto Dahot and Lakho Bheel along with MPA Fakeer Sher Mohammad Blalani met with Mr Imtiaz Ahmed Shaikh in his office in Karachi and appraised him of their problems being caused to them due to dumping of wastewater from the coal mines of Block 2 of Thar Coalfields in Gorano dam. The villagers informed the journalists of Tharparkar that Mr Shaikh heard them patiently and assured them that he would himself visit the various sites in Tharparkar very soon.

They said that the minister also contacted the CEO of Sindh Engro Coal Mining Company, DC Tharparkar and other officials and asked them to sit with the villagers along with local lawmakers to address their issues on next Sunday. The villagers said that they had ended their historic protest of over 636 days on the assurances of the PPP leaders a few days ahead of the general elections in 2018 and they had promised that they would take up their issues at the proper forums.

They said that they were again ready to resume their parleys with the executives and officials of mining firms in the presence of their elected representatives for the proper resettlement policy, compensation and the redress of their genuine concerns against the coal mining and the subsequent environmental hazards in their respective villages. They hoped that Mr Shaikh would also play his due role to help mitigate their sufferings.
